Precision Electropolishing is often described as ‘reverse plating.’ It is an electrochemical process that removes a microscopic layer of material from the surface of a metal part, typically stainless steel. By selectively removing metal from the peaks of the surface profile, electropolishing smooths the surface, removes micro-burrs, and eliminates surface cracks or stress points. The result is a mirrorlike, high-luster finish that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also ultra-clean. This process significantly enriches the surface with chromium, providing much higher corrosion resistance than standard chemical passivation. For AGS customers in the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, electropolishing is mandatory to ensure that gas lines and tanks are free of microscopic crevices where bacteria or particles could hide. It also provides stress relief for precision springs and delicate hardware. We monitor Ra before and after the process.
