Industrial Electroplating is a current-driven process that coats a metal part with a thin layer of another metal, such as Zinc, Nickel, Chrome, or Gold. Each metal offers unique functional benefits: Zinc provides excellent sacrificial corrosion protection for steel; Nickel offers a balance of wear resistance and aesthetics; while Gold is used for its superior electrical conductivity and oxidation resistance in high-end connectors. At AGS, we control the plating thickness to within a few microns to ensure that tight tolerances on threaded parts and mating surfaces are maintained. The process involves a series of electrochemical baths where the part acts as the cathode. Proper surface activation and pre-treatment are the keys to achieving high adhesion strength. We utilize X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology to nondestructively measure plating thickness and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
